2022 edition of IPL could be held in South Africa: Reports

The last time IPL was held in South Africa, way back in 2009 in the second season of IPL. Where Deccan Chargers the Hyderabad based franchise emerged as winner by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the finale.

With the sharp rise in covid cases in India, the decision was addressed just before the IPL Mega auction which is like to be happen in the second week of February.

In 2021 the 14th season of the IPL suspended due to the second wave of covid breaching the bubble of certain teams then moved to UAE. 

The last time IPL was held in South Africa was in 2009.

The IPL 2020 held fully in UAE and partially in UAE but this time BCCI planning to organize the league in South Africa or Sri Lanka as plan-B if the situation doesn’t improve in India. The Indian Premier League was scheduled to start from April 2 to June 3 in India at 10 venues for 10 teams with 9 home matches and 9 away matches.

“We can’t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players.”

a BCCI official said.

The COVID positivity rates rising rapidly day by day. The chances of IPL in India is decreasing as of record of yesterday 1.1m cases were identified.

As the Indian team is in South Africa, the team was staying in beautiful resorts also good hospital where the facilities has been good where they are saying in a biosecure bubble environment.

The India tour of South Africa was is doubt due to rising case in South Africa. Then it’s rescheduled and the T20I series will be played on other date. With the cases decreasing in the country, it will be ideal conditions for the Indian Premier League.
